Gutter overflow wets the tiny porch
Lightning flashes in the window
Thunder rattles pictures on the wall
Just listen to the rain come down

Water flooding the lot below
Streaming from every corner
Light streaks across the night sky
Glimpse sheets of rain set alight

In the shadows color disappears
Grays shift and twist in the night
No warmth waits for the lost ones
The rain yet pounding in the dark

Still the rain tortures with no relief
Beating against the skull, the brain
There can be no rest in the maelstrom
Forever obliged to listen to the rain
