Once there was a beautiful blue flower that stood all alone in the middle of a grand meadow. She was the only one of her kind as far as the eye could see. She fancied herself very special indeed. Around her there were a rainbow of different colored flowers but she was the one and only blue flower. She imagined that all the other flowers were jealous of her rich hue and she felt sorry for them.

One day she deigned to speak to one of the lowly buttercups who were in abundance through out the meadow. Trying not to appear too superior she asked the nearest buttercup how it felt to be surrounded by so many other buttercups. Did she feel, well, ordinary? The buttercup giggled slightly and then shared with the blue flower how wonderful it felt to be surrounded by buttercups. She felt safe and comfortable. She was never alone and all the other buttercups understood her. Besides, she pointed out; each buttercup is a little different as you would see if you looked really close. Not like Blue who is forced to stand all alone with no one to understand her, the only one of her kind in a meadow of warm buttercups and lilies of the valley. And the buttercup admitted that they all felt sorry for the blue flower for they were sure she wished to be a buttercup, or one of the many other flowers happily spread across the landscape.

Blue thought about what the buttercup had told her. She thought about how nice it would be to have friends around instead of being alone and unique. She was different but in the buttercups mind that didnt make her better it just made her alone. She had never consider before how alone she was. Each of the buttercups could touch another in the swaying meadow. No matter how hard the wind would blow Blue would never touch another blue flower. This made her very sad. She didnt feel special anymore she just felt lonely.

Then along came a young girl who admired Blue. She exclaimed how beautiful you are and decided to bring the blue flower back to the Garden. She carefully dug around the flower and pulled her out root and all. She took the blue flower from the grand meadow and placed her in a spot of honor in the Garden.

There were many unusual flowers of every color size and shape in the Garden. While they were all very different, they were also very much the same for they had all been carefully selected for the spectacular garden. It wasnt that there werent any buttercups or lilies of the valley but there were no more of them then any other flowers. You see the Garden was a special because it included all of the different flowers. The Gardener appreciated the diversity of flowers.

Blue then understood that while it seems wonderful to be the only one of your kind, it can be very lonely. And although its nice to be a member of a group, you dont want to disappear into the crowd. Better to be in a Garden, where every flower is valued for its differences and accepted as part of the group too. Blue was glad to be in the Garden and appreciated all the beauty around her. She no longer thinks of herself as better anymore because she now knows that she is just different. And that is OK too.

I wish you Peace
